They have been given rigid and challenging standards to live up to, standards that are usually unrealistic, unattainable, and disheartening. Many women spend a large majority of their lives suffering trying to meet these standards. The ideal body image in this country today seems to be the long-haired 5’7†, 95 lb female found in every fashion magazine, every sitcom and every movie you will ever see. Women have been suffering since the beginning of time trying to please these men, fixing their hair every morning, wearing girdles, cooking for them, cleaning for them, etc. Apparently, according to history and fashion magazines, the only acceptable way to be a true woman, a woman who can gain the acceptance of a man, is to be perfect. For this reason, modern society has made a business out of a woman’s need for perfection. For instance, â€Å"airbrushing,† or â€Å"retouching†, a computer technique used in the photography industry to hide imperfections (such as pimples) has been added to all applications for student pictures. It is also used in fashion magazines to reshape the thighs of already near-perfect supermodels. The cosmetic industry is one of the most profitable in the world. Over a half-million elementary-school students in New York City will have to adhere to a dress code by the Fall of 1999. The president of the school board said the policy is important to diminish peer pressure and promote school pride, but that its not an act of magic to transform schools overnight. It isnt going to replace good teaching, good principals, small classrooms. Its a fashion trend thats spreading. From Los Angeles to Louisiana, from Maryland to Miami, public schools are discussing, and in many cases adopting, the old private school idea. School uniforms are designed to help kids focus on algebra instead of high-tops; to make students compete for grades rather than jackets. ;It helps to get up in the morning and not have to think about what youre going to wear, said Maria, a ninth-grader who swims, plays soccer, and wears exactly what everybody else does at her high school in Washington, DC. Each school day, Maria dons an all-white oxford shirt, brown shoes, and a gray/maroon plaid skirt that has to be long enough to the touch the ground when she kneels. After school and on weekends, of course, all bets are off. Maria has a simple yet effective strategy: she borrows her friends clothes, typically baggy jeans. School uniforms also take the pressure off students to pay top dollar for clothes, according to Reginald Wilson, a senior scholar at the American Council on Education in Washington, D. C. ;I think it does lower the cost of clothes, and kids dont emphasize clothes as much when theyre all wearing the same thing,; Wilson said. ;Certainly the competition to wear the best shoes or the best sweaters and so forth has been prevalent in school ever since I was in school, and the poor kids felt inferior.; Training? The training argument says that when you are employed, you are likely to have to wear a uniform. Is this true? What are the odds that children will wear a uniform later in life? Typically, the occupations where people have to wear uniforms are the lower paid jobs, nothing to look forward to, really. Generally, the more educated people are, the less they wear uniforms later in life. Look at teachers, they dont wear uniforms! Well-paid work tends to reject uniformity, and for good reason, the demands of the future include qualities such as assertiveness, creativity, individuality, originality, a spontaneous personality, being a self-starter, taking initiatives, being able to cope with change, etc. And even the people who do wear a uniform later in life are unlikely to accept such a silly costume as a school uniform. Only for prostitutes is the school uniform an obligatory part of their professional wardrobe (and one may wonder why). What is the logic behind forcing children in uniforms? That children have to get used to wearing a uniform, just in the unfortunate case that they will end up in such a job later in life? If we turn around the same logic, students who are used to wearing uniforms would be insufficiently prepared for plain-clothed work, if they did not wear plain clothes at school all the time. Similarly, students would not be able to deal with people who didnt wear uniforms. It just doesnt make sense. There is one deeper argument. It goes like this: students waering uniforms will be accustomed to taking a servile attitude which will help them find work later in life. Of course, the very opposite could be argued with more reason. Does success in future demand a servile attitude? Or is it more helpful to be creative, have an spontaneous and open personality, an inquisitive mind, be a self-starter who talks things over, who has an independent mind searching for new ideas to make things work? See? Examine an argument that supposedly favored school uniforms more closely, and it either doesnt make sense or it turns into an argument against school uniforms. It is highly likely for group members to present conflicting opinions, which also triggers rivalry and tension within the group. Whereas conflicts might be considered as being adverse towards attainment of the team’s objectives, constructive conflicts provide a chance for group members to select the appropriate options to pursue in addressing the task at hand (Fleishman et al., 2008; De Wit et al., 2012). This is the most critical stage in group development, and issues have to be resolved before moving to the next stage (Egolf Chester, 2013). Referring to the process of delivering our team’s presentation, some of the conflicts that arose included the theories to incorporate in the presentation or the sources to be used. For instance, I questioned why the group leader insisted on using books as our main sources, yet peer reviewed journals that were readily available in the college library database could also be used to compliment books. Other group members also quest ioned why they could not use any source they come across on the internet. However, these conflicts were minor and short lived. The third stage is of group developing is referred to as norming (Egolf Chester, 2013). After the conflicts have been resolved in the storming stage, the effectiveness of the team begins to increase, trust among team members grows and the individual differences are appreciated (Garfield Dennis, 2012). This was the final stage of development for our group. For the functionality of the team, some group members stopped persisting with their ideas for the sake of avoiding conflict. There was also an increased cohesion among members, and as opposed to conflicting opinions that characterized the storming stage, team members showed support for each other, and provided constructive feedback for each others’ contribution to the team. The fourth stage of group development is referred to as productivity. According to Egolf and Chester (2013), not all groups progress to this stage. Our group did not get to this stage based on the fact that the task that was to be accomplished was short- term. In summary, the developments that took place in our group, as well as the issues that characterized them, closely relate to Tuckman’s four stage model (forming, storming norming and performance). The fact that the group exercise was short-term meant that the group development did not progress to the performance stage, but the objective of the team was met. Group Motivation Motivation in teamwork incorporates all the efforts that are made by team members to increase the cohesion and levels of productivity of the entire team (Wright et al., 2012). With reference to Hertzberg’s dual factor theory of motivation, there is a set of factors that increases the productivity of individuals in accomplishing their tasks. There is also another separate set of factors that cause dissatisfaction and thus, limit individual productivity (Sachau, 2007). This section addresses the approaches that were used to motivate group members. In group work, one of the motivation approaches is through ensuring effective communication among all people within the group (Dunin-Keplicz Verbrugge, 2011). In group work, responsibilities are divided into smaller tasks and assigned to members depending on their competence. Given that all these sub-tasks contribute towards the attainment of the overall team objective, it is necessary for all team members to communicate about the progress of their respective tasks. This will avoid situations where some members unknowingly derail, or fail to complete their tasks within the agreed upon time limits (Lencioni, 2012). During the preparation and delivery of our group presentation, we ensured that communication between us was effective. This was done by requesting all group members to provide their phone numbers and email addresses. We also followed each other on social media platforms. This ensured that if there was a breakdown in one communication channel, there was always another viabl e objective. When handling group tasks, it is vital to schedule regular meetings in consideration of the responsibilities of all group members. This ensures that every group member is available during the meeting (Dunin-Keplicz Verbrugge, 2011). Regular meetings also allow for close consultations between group members in case some group members hit a snag in completing the tasks that they have been assigned (Lencioni, 2012). Most of the members in our team were dedicated and never skipped meetings. Whereas there were team members who easily handled the tasks that they had been allocated, there are some who found it quite challenging to accomplish their tasks. We understood the fact that there are some people who are quicker than others in accomplishing their assigned tasks than others is common. Thus, instead of reprimanding them, we took to the initiative to ensure that group members who had a challenge in completing their tasks were assisted to complete them. Motivation in teamwork also entails making everybody feel like they valuable members (Hill Parsons, 2014). For instance, if a decision is to be made about a project, the opinions of all group members have to be considered. This encourages constructive debates, which are vital for rational decision making. The group members’ motivation to deliver may be adversely affected if major decisions are only made by a section of the team, which may also lead to groupthink. Groupthink is a common phenomenon in teamwork where the fear of conflicts, or desire for group conformity and harmony, causes other group members to agree with decisions made by others. This is regardless of whether they are suitable or not (De Wit et al., 2012). During our group work, all members were allowed to actively engage in discussions and every opinion presented was listened to. Even though it was not possible to implement incorporate all members’ opinions in decision making, reasons why some opinions were considered over others was also clearly explained to all group members. Our team was culturally diverse, and included people from both genders. Therefore, tasks were distributed in consideration of this diversity. Different approaches were used to motivate group members. However, even with the efforts that were made to optimize the productivity of every group member, there were some individuals who failed to attend group meetings without good reasons. Regardless of these drawbacks, the rest of the team worked diligently to the completion of the project. Learning at Work Learning at work refers to the skills and competencies that members of a team learn as they collectively accomplish a task (Zellmer-Bruhn Gibson, 2006). Typically, the abilities of each individual in the team will vary, with each being more competent in some areas, less competent in others In this regard team members learn from each other through sharing knowledge so as to compliment one another’s skills (Dunin-Keplicz Verbrugge, 2011). This section discusses the process of team learning within the group during the exercise. Team members have to ensure that they have created strong relationships and trust amongst themselves to facilitate team learning. Failure to create a team environment that allows members to learn from one another may undermine the attainment of the overall team objective (Lencioni, 2012). Learning at work or team leaning can be made possible through observations, dialogue and reflection (Hill Parsons, 2014). Team members should be willing to enable those who are not as competent as they are in certain aspects that are vital to the accomplishment of the team’s objective to improve. Likewise, team members who lack some competencies ought to take the initiative to learn through observation or asking for assistance (Zellmer-Bruhn Gibson, 2006). One of the models that can be used to understand team leaning is the action-learning cycle (Coghlan Rigg, 2012). Action learning is a continuous learning process, where individuals from their own experiences and actions, as well as those of other members of their team. Through their own experience, people learn to avoid repeating mistakes they did and continue to improve their competencies in certain disciplines. The action-learning cycle was designed to enable individuals to draw lessons from their experiences by making analytical reflections of their actions (Pedler ‎Abbott, 2013). This means that lessons from past experiences can guide present actions, while lessons learnt from the current experience can be used to guide future actions. In the course of the preparation and delivery of our group presentation, team members learnt from each other in different ways. Based on the relationship that had been developed between team members, dialogue was one of the most used approaches for team learning. Group members were willing to share information with others to improve each other’s levels of competence. For instance, one two of our team members were competent in using different data analysis approaches so as to come up with relevant conclusions on the research topic. In addition to this, while most of us were comfortable with the basic function of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, one of the team members and I, were more competent with the more advanced options. Therefore, we spent some time during meetings learning from and teaching each other. Learning took different approaches, which included reflections and observations. Even though some of the competencies that were learnt were not improved to the extent that perfection was attained, most of the group members had improved their skills in one aspect or other. I improved my confidence and public speaking skills through the mock presentations that were held by the group in preparation for the final presentation to a larger audience.. All team members also learnt several concepts that could enable them to be more productive members of teams in future. In summary, the group exercise was instrumental in developing some competencies that every group member lacked. As mentioned, different approaches were used in learning or teaching each other about different concepts that were challenging for different group members. Conclusion The capability of an individual to be a productive member of a team is one of the vital competencies that are required for success in any aspect of life. In the preparation and delivery of our group presentation, several characteristics of groups, which relate to organizational behavioural theory, were identified. This paper has presented an overview of the factors that characterized the team working process. One of these is the process through which the ram developed through the formation, storming and norming stages. Based on the fact that the group assignment was short-term, we did not get into the performance stage. The motivation factors that contributed towards the achievement of the overall team goal have also been presented in this paper. Ways in which different group members leant from each other to improve their competencies in several areas have also been addressed in this paper. Por ejemplo, la visa C-1 puede ser una opcià ³n para un latinoamericano que le desea visitar un paà ­s europeo y le gustarà ­a viajar en una aerolà ­nea que hace escala en Estados Unidos porque el boleto de avià ³n es ms barato que si compra un vuelo directo. Otro caso para solicitar la visa de trnsito serà ­a el de un extranjero en un barco cuyo origen y destino no es Estados Unidos y en el transcurso del viaje el barco atraca en un puerto estadounidense. En este caso no se tiene permiso para bajar a tierra. Si se quiere pasear y hacer turismo se necesita una visa de turista, conocida en algunos paà ­ses como de paseo o placer o tambià ©n por las iniciales B2 o B1/B2. Finalmente, a la entrevista debe acudirse en hora, llevando ordenados los documentos necesarios. Entre estos destacan el pasaporte vlido con visa del paà ­s de destino, si fuera necesaria, el resguardo del pago de la solicitud de la visa y el cà ³digo de barras y confirmacià ³n de haber completado el formulario DS-160. Adems, debe llevarse copia del itinerario del viaje o de la reserva del mismo y los documentos que sirvan para probar que el solicitante tiene lazos econà ³micos, familiares y sociales sà ³lidos en su lugar de residencia habitual. Aprobacià ³n o rechazo solicitud de visa C-1 de trnsito Si la solicitud de visa es aprobada se entregar al solicitante segà ºn las reglas de cada consulado. En la actualidad en la mayorà ­a de los paà ­ses se entrega el pasaporte con la visa estampada en el mismo utilizando los servicio de mensajerà ­a de DHL. Cabe destacar que la visa puede ser negada. Las razones son mà ºltiples y pueden ser calificadas en dos grandes categorà ­as: inadmisible, en cuyo  caso a veces  se puede pedir un perdà ³n,  o inelegible. Estas son 20 razones por las que la peticià ³n de visa puede ser no aprobada por esta à ºltima causa.  En este caso, el consulado entrega una hoja donde se indica la causa de la misma. Para aplicar de nuevo con posibilidades de obtener una aprobacià ³n es necesario que cambie la circunstancia por la que se produjo la negacià ³n. Cuando se llega al control migratorio de EE.UU. el oficial decide el tiempo mximo de estancia en el paà ­s que, en ningà ºn caso, puede exceder de los 29 dà ­as. To prevent prejudice form occurring, we need to keep in mind we are all human beings, and have the right to be treated equal. Like the law states â€Å"Innocent until proven guilty,† We should first learn about the person, and find the reason toward their actions before we judge. We must keep in mind we all have the right to make mistakes and no one is free from them, but most important, we need to keep in mind that prejudiced comments hurt people in numerous ways, and we do not want to be part of their pain. I read a book â€Å"Thirteen Reasons Why† by Jay Asher, in which a teenage girl kills herself because of the prejudiced comments thirteen different people made about her. It took only 13 reasons for her to kill herself, because one comment itself didn’t hurt, but all 13 had a snowball effect and kept rolling, getting bigger every time, Once the snowball got to a certain size, she wasn’t able to take all the negative comments and decided to kill herself.

The Effects of Karl Marx's Communist Manifesto on Human Values What was it like living in the times before the Communist Manifesto was introduced to society? What kind of affect did this document have on the values of the average family? How did it influence the values of the individual? Sometimes these values where affected in a way that does not come directly from the release of the Manifesto but instead vicariously through other events brought on by the document. Overall, an interesting topic to look at is what it meant to be human in the 1840’s. France is representative of European nations at that time. Through France, the effects of the Communist Manifesto on human values are evident. In order to understand how people lived before the year 1848, in which Karl Marx wrote the Communist Manifesto, it is important to know a little about the history of France. In the years of the French Revolution, the citizens began to think differently about their lives and the quality of them. They started to look at other countries, America for example, and saw how people there seemed to have more rights and freedoms then those in France. The people decided that they deserved better and became interested in the ideas of â€Å"liberty and equality, of popular sovereignty and national self-determination, social mobility, mass literacy, and citizen armies.†1 These ideas were revolutionary to the people living in France at that time. The values of the human people in France changed mainly because they found themselves thinking that they deserved more in terms of respect from the government, better education, and equality amongst themselves. An ethnohistory of the utah paiutes

Dr. Ron Holt is a dignified socio-cultural anthropologist specializing in applied fieldwork and tribal politics. He currently resides in northern Utah as a professor (among many other things) at Weber State University where he educates young minds on the world of anthropology. The collection of information in this text covers every important aspect of the life of the American Indian Paiute tribe with a main emphasis on their introduction to the Anglo-Americans.Throughout the text Dr. Holt emphasizes many occurrences regarding the co-existence of American Indians and Anglo Americans and despite a few positive outcomes, nearly every influential aspect of the whites is to be understood as a negative one. Dr. Holt vividly depicts the introduction of the white man and makes a valid point in designating who the instigator of the degradation of the Paiutes was. A main emphasis on his writing of this book is to display the truth behind the Paiute struggles and reveal what they went through a s a people. Before the publishing date of this text in 1992 the life of the Paiutes had been vaguely documented.Through personal field work, material in the LDS archives, the Smithsonian Institute and many other sources such as journals and university archives, Dr. Holt was able to obtain a topical and chronological collection of information regarding the entire known existence of the Utah Paiutes since the year they were first witnessed in 1776. In 1981 while teaching at Southern Utah College (now Southern Utah University) Dr. Holt was asked by a local Paiute tribesman to research a potential reservation plan for the Utah Paiutes, an American Indian band of that area. This being an opportunity for Dr.Holt to produce a dissertation for his schooling he took the offer and ultimately produced a one-of-a-kind collection of American Indian knowledge. Through extensive field work and research, material was gathered and organized into data pertaining to the lives of the Paiutes. From this collection the text BENEATH THESE RED CLIFFS was produced. The beginning of the first chapter in this text introduces the reader to a specific way of life for a specific kind of people. After obtaining a feeling of understanding and curiosity about the Paiutes, the text throws the reader into an eternal downward spiral of bad news and depression.As documented, within a very short one hundred and fifty year span, the proud native people of southern Utah were greatly reduced in numbers and transformed from successful hunter-gatherers into beggars and seasonal or part-time workers. The main cause of their depression is seriously attributed to the settlement of the Mormons in the southern Utah area. The Paiutes were a dark skinned people that had a historical religious meaning to the Mormons known as Lamanites. From this historical belief the Mormons decided the Paiutes needed to be educated and â€Å"saved† from whatever their previous way of life was.Although the church believ ed they were doing good by taking over control of the Paiutes they conveniently turned a blind eye to the side effects of assimilation and paternalism which ultimately led to the downfall of the Paiute Nation. They were forced to beg for much of what they lived on because their foraging lands were being dominated by grazing cattle and incoming settlers. To add to their list of troubles in the 1800’s the Paiutes had to deal with population declination due to New Mexican and Ute slave trafficking.Targeting mainly female children and women, the reproduction rate of the Paiutes was severely crippled. With ratios of nearly two-to-one for men to women, the Paiutes had limited means of procreation. Without women to gather food and mate with the tribe was staring death in the face. After the catastrophic introduction to whites and slavery pre 1900s, a surviving life style for the Paiutes started to become a little more manageable. Ironically during the Great American Depression in th e 1930’s and 1940’s the Paiutes struggled a little less because the rest of the American nation had it so hard.Through manual labor for the Mormons and seasonal foraging for Pine Nuts and other edibles, the Paiutes survived living one day at a time, but this was to be short lived. In the 1950’s the government decided to â€Å"Terminate† all American tribes deemed capable of surviving on their own. Termination was a swift process that was intended to initiate capable American Indians to the stature of a Citizen of The United States of America; the Paiutes were not prepared for the termination bill, but in 1957 it happened anyway.The bill organized a support system for the new way of life that all terminated American Indians would have to assist them with the transformation. The structure of this ingenious plan consisted of three support organizations: The BIA (Bureau of Indian Affairs) withdrawal office, an educational and vocational training program held by the University of Utah and the BIA relocation program. The Paiutes were now no longer part of a tribe; they were instead â€Å"Citizens of The State,† who were subject to state laws, federal taxes and state taxes. After termination the Paiutes were desperate for a substantial income.Their bands had inhabited over nearly 30 million acres of land in areas including four states: Arizona, California, Utah and Nevada; this was without a doubt their most valuable asset. In 1965, after a long demeaning process, the Paiutes agreed to sell 26. 4 million of these acres for 27. 3 cents per acre. With the sale of tribal lands the Paiutes had their substantial influx of money and were able to become a self sustaining people again. The 1970’s initiated the restoration process which turned the Paiutes back into a recognized American Indian group, but their struggle to recover from termination continues today.

Economic abuse Essay

In Charles Chesnutt’s The Conjure Woman, Uncle Julius—a character who might be quite at home as a trickster figure in another story—uses humorous tales which are meant to question the narrator’s notions about race. It is important that these critiques are often couched in humor: not only does this help the narrator receive unpalatable or unflattering information, but it allows racial matters to be turned on their ears for white audiences that may find themselves too busy laughing to be upset. One of the primary texts used to question racial assumptions is the story of â€Å"Po’ Sandy. † This story concentrates on a man who is turned into a tree by a powerful goopher, and the revelation of the information prevents the narrator and his wife from using the lumber in the old school house. Of course, the humorous ending shows that Julius had an intent to use the schoolhouse all along, and strongly implies that the entirety of his tale was bent towards this purpose. To a casual reader enjoying this story for the first time, it may seem that Julius holds the real power over the unsuspecting narrator. However, the story functions well as a critique of black/white power relations in a post-Civil War South: Julius, ostensibly made equal in the eyes of the law, is still in a severe economic disadvantage compared to the narrator. Since wealth is equivalent to power in the brutal economic realities of the time, the only way for Julius to attain power is to concern himself with the redistribution of the narrator’s wealth. In short: he is still effectively beholden to white culture, despite being emancipated. As a racial critique, however, the conclusion of â€Å"Mars Jeems’ Nightmare† proves much more potent. According to Julius, Mars Jeems is actually turned into a black man, which explains how well he treats slaves. The ostensible moral is simply for white masters to not be overly cruel, but the implications seem much more sinister: that the only way that whites will have true empathy with blacks is to be physically transformed into blacks. Otherwise, blacks are characterized by whites as an unknown and unknowable other, beyond any actual understanding. However, this text posits that the transformation necessary to understanding is open to any willing person—that the institution of slavery and racism can be undone brick by brick. This message is certainly positive, but the symbolism should not be overlooked—it takes an act of powerful magic to transform Mars Jeems, as opposed to a sentimental change of heart. She also invites the reader to look at how her own maternal identity is threatened by constant sexual abuse, and later, economic abuse at the hands of cruel whites. In this sense, her text is closer, thematically, to Wilson’s Our Nig: each one points out that legitimate attempts at maternity are actually thwarted by the very structure of institutionalized slavery, which is designed to break up families and highlights the ultimate Catch-22: white critics who decry black families as some kind of unknowable Other due to their differences, when many of those differences were effectively foisted on them by white culture. Jacob’s straightforward story is in striking contrast to Francis Harper’s convoluted Iola Leroy, which places dramatic irony, miscegenation, and the Civil War into a strange soup. For Harper, maternity is linked more to a discovery of femininity, which in turn is linked to the discovery of the truth; by mending wounded soldiers, Leroy is able to come to terms with her own blackness. It is worth noting that for Harper, maternity is also a political decision: racial solidarity plays a part in Leroy’s choice of a mate, because (consciously or unconsciously) she feels a need to recreate the black family in a traditional dynamic, untainted by any aspects of slavery. This is important because it emphasizes the need to create and celebrate a unique black culture, not for the nature of its exclusivity, but for its ability to stand proudly apart from the white hands that, not too long ago, were holding shackles. In this sense, â€Å"home† is identified in the novel not as a specific place, but a state of mind—an integration with one’s true identity. It serves as a kind of invitation for other blacks to discover who they are, and form bonds for solidarity; to do otherwise is to foster an ongoing cultural Diaspora that never really goes away. Harriet Wilson’s Our Nig is unique because it seemingly defines maternity through negation—that is, it is easier to see the shape of maternity in its absence through the novel, rather than through its presence. Specifically, Frado being abandoned by Tom illustrates Wilson’s larger point: that blacks were often denied reciprocal maternal identities because the nature of slavery and the nation that condoned it was not conducive to the formation of traditional families, and the bonds that came with them. The final invocation to purchase her book points to the cyclical nature of everything: it is through a kind of monetary reparations that slavery is not forgiven, but that black society can be set up in a way that supports the nuclear family. She desires a world in which she can make a living as an author, and have a safe relationship with people she can trust. However, Wilson has realized that she, herself, will have to create this world; it will not come about on its own.

The covenant involved Noah and the floods where God wanted to destroy mankind for their sinful ways (Showers, 1973). The rainbow was the sign of this covenant which would mean that God would not destroy man using water again; this would be seen by all successive generations. The provisions in the covenant were unilateral in that Noah had no roles in the covenant and God would carry out his promises. It was everlasting, universal and unconditional. Harless, (2004) criticizes this covenant in that it does not have a sense of confirmation and that the only confirmed covenant in these readings is the Adamic covenant. In deed he also states that since the other covenants were from the hypothetical covenant of creation then this also remains hypothetical. Harless, (2004) sees it as just a bargain between the participants since no obligation is placed on Noah. Abrahamic Covenant The participants were God, Abraham, his descendants and the Israelites. This is found in the book of Genesis 15: 18; 17: 4-8 and 19-21. The sign of the covenant was the circumcision of the people which would act as Gods commitment to his people. There are three promises in this covenant where one was the personal covenant with Abraham, national promises, and universal promises. The promise of the land of Canaan to the Israelites and that Abraham would be a father of a great nation (Showers, 1990). This promise was unconditional and Abraham can be said to be a father of a nation; on the other hand the land of Canaan and the entire Nile region still remain contentious in that there is still war currently (Harless, 2004). Davidic Covenant This coveant was made between God and David and is in the book of 2 Samuel 7: 8-19; this is seen as an extension of the Abrahamic covenant since David was a descendant of Abraham. He promised David a great name and protection from his enemies; in addition, his name, kingdom and lineage would last forever and would never be done away with (Kline, 2000). This remains in contention since the kingdom of David is not intact till now but this kingdom is believed to be led by Jesus Christ the savior to the Christians. Even so, there are those who do not believe and follow this religion (Ryrie, 2007). The New Covenant This covenant is initially revealed in the book of Jeremiah 31: 31-34; it is believed to be the extension of the Abrahamic covenant which was based on blessing. The participants were God and the people of Israel who were the physical descendants of Abraham. The promises given were regeneration, forgiveness, the Holy Spirit, knowledge and wisdom. This was unconditional as the people of Israel needed not to do anything to get the promises (Blaising, Bock, 2010). The sign is believed to be the blood of Jesus which he did symbolically during the last supper with his disciples. It indicates this cup is the New Covenant in my blood Luke 22:20. It is also eternal as Christians continue taking communion and believe in the forgiveness of sin, the Holy Spirit, a new heart and regeneration. Adamic covenant includes the curses which were pronounced to human kind after Adam and Eve did against the will of God. After Eve was deceived by the devil that comes to Adam in form of a Snake, when Adam and Eve sinned against God they were told to get out the Garden of Eden. The woman was cursed that she will always bear children with pain while men will always labor to get their foods but when they were in the garden they were being given food and drinks. Previously God had Edenic covenant which they were supposed to be in charge of the garden, all the animals and fruits which were in the garden apart from one tree which was as the center of the garden which they were told never to eat it. Once they broke this covenant then God entered in to another covenant with them which is Ademic covenant (Elon, R. (2005). I do criticize this covenant because it was against the initial will of the reason why Adam and eve ware placed in the garden. It did expose them to temptation and its consequences were really harsh. Palestinian Covenant was made between the Israelites and God right before Moses died once they entered the Promised Land. When the Israelites where in the wilderness was because of the sins of the generation which was from Egypt God Cursed them that none of them will enter to the promised land and for forty years they were in the wilderness. God made this covenant at Moab when they were about to enter the Promised Land which was to serve the new generation. God told them that if they will obey the Mosaic Law God will bless the nation abundantly but if they disobey the law the nation will be cursed. He further promised them that he will gather all the other Israelites who have dispersed all over the world and place them at the covenant land (Larondelle, 2005). I would criticize this covenant because its much similar to the Mosaic Law which was given to Moses on behalf of the Israelites which they did not obey at fast and they had to be in the wilderness for forty years. God would have just reinstated the previous covenant and foreworn them on what their descendants faced due to unlawfulness. Mosaic covenant is a conditional covenant which brought about Gods cursing if they do not obey the law or even blessings if they follow the laws upon the nation of Israel. The covenant is different other covenants due to its conditional nature that it is dependent on how the Israelites will live if they obey Gods covenant they will be blessed or they will punished if they disobey them (Hillers, 1969). The main reason why the covenant is significant its because of how God promise was destined to make Israel a holy nation and a kingdom of priests. Although the convent has the Gods future intention to the Israelites such would not have been achieved if at all they do not do in accordance with the law. There are noted weaknesses on the convents which are attributed by the theology systems. This is being set in three ways first it requires the covenants to be compared with different scriptures which supports them or not. The Advantages of Homlessness - Essay Example The freedom that a homeless person would have from these bills would be unimaginable to some. There would be a great deal of financial freedom if one were homeless, but one would need to consider as well where they could find shelter in the event of bad weather conditions. I would not choose to be homeless due to this reason. One would replace the worry of constant bill paying with the worry of finding safe and adequate shelter, sometimes on short notice. In addition, if one has children, being homeless is simply not a viable option. Children require stability and protection. The choice to be homeless would need to be made by adults with no children involved. I feel that personally, I would not be comfortable with the uncertainty of homelessness, the not being able to call the place my own. I would prefer to be a slave to work as it is then a slave to freedom. Freedom comes a price. If I had the power, however, to make and execute a social policy which would bring equality between classes, I would develop a policy that ensured essentially equal provisions for all. I would first implement a system that provided socialized health care for each and every individual who needed it. It would also provide for housing to any person or persons who needed or wanted to house. There would be no such thing as forced homelessness. If individuals chose to be homeless, there would be shelters established simply for their need for temporary shelter.   No one would be turned away at any time unless they were not following rules or laws. The rules would be simply to respect others at all times and no illegal activities.
